Perhaps your smile isn’t as bright as you’d like it to be. Or, maybe your teeth are a bit uneven in length, or they’re not spaced equally. You may have one or more chipped teeth as well that make you feel self-conscious.

We can transform your smile into a stunning one with veneers, which completely cover imperfections and stains. Veneers are ultrathin new tooth surfaces that are custom made to fit your teeth and address particular tooth flaws. Made from stain-resistant porcelain, they are bonded directly to the tooth surface to whiten or align teeth.

Custom-Tailored to Your Smile

Our veneers are individually tailored to meet your smile needs. One of the most significant benefits of these veneers is that layers of porcelain are used to give the veneer a luminousness and vibrancy that cannot be matched by a machine. Together, we will choose the right shade for your new smile. You can select to have gleaming white veneers or ones with a more natural appearance.

What Does the Process Involve?

Before the placement of dental veneers, we will prep the teeth that will be fitted with the custom-made “shells.” Usually, this requires removing some of the outer layer of tooth enamel, but rest assured – we always plan to minimize this removal. Next, we will shape the tooth so that the veneer, which is about as thick as a fingernail, can be applied to the tooth surface and not protrude.

Impressions of your teeth will be taken. The impressions are used to prepare a mold from which the veneers will be fabricated. The molds are sent to a lab where the veneers will be crafted by skilled dental ceramist/technician. At your next visit, we will clean your teeth and apply the veneers with a strong adhesive that bonds them in place.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long will my veneers last?

High-quality porcelain veneers can last for years and years, in fact, we would be surprised if they don’t last for at least 10 to 20 years!

Do veneers look natural?

Yes! Veneers appear like natural dental enamel.

What types of tooth concerns can porcelain veneers address?

Veneers can close up spaces, repair chipped or damaged teeth, or cover tooth enamel that is worn from the ageing process or from teeth grinding.

Missing teeth can result in a loss of confidence. When you feel too self-conscious to smile, you can miss out on a lot in life — potential career opportunities and relationships. We offer an advanced, long-lasting and effective solution to your missing teeth dilemma: dental implants.

Benefits of Implants

While many tooth replacement options are available today such as bridges and dentures, dental implants have several advantages over these:

  • Dental implants have a natural, lifelike appearance.
  • The implant portion is made of titanium, which is a strong, biocompatible metal.
  • Dental implants are secure and stable.
  • Dental implants help preserve bone after tooth extraction, preventing facial shape changes.
  • When taken care of, dental implants can last a very long time.

What Does the Process Involve?

The first step is to have our dentists evaluate your current situation with missing tooth/teeth so that we are certain dental implants are a viable option. A titanium implant is put into the jawbone, then allowed to heal. Later, you’ll return to have the implant topped with either a crown or bridge, and upper, lower or complete denture, depending on your particular situation. It may take as little as three visits to complete the process of receiving an implant.

Who is a candidate for a dental implant?

If you are missing one tooth or want to replace multiple teeth but don’t want to have a denture or bridge, dental implants may be the ideal solution for you. The treatment is tailored to each individual’s needs.

There can be a contraindication with certain medications. If you smoke, we may encourage you to take a break from your habit to receive the implant and allow for healing.

Where do you source the materials used?

Our practice uses only local laboratories and Australian-made materials. We don’t send anything overseas.

Is the procedure painful?

If you required bone to be transplanted before the placement of the implant, swelling and discomfort may occur as they would with a routine tooth extraction. Local anaesthesia is used to keep you comfortable during the procedure, and oral sedatives are also available if needed. Often, our patients feel surprised at how easy it is to get an implant.

What can I expect after receiving a dental implant?

For 2-7 days, you may experience some soreness around the implant site. Our dentists can prescribe antibiotics after your procedure if needed.

When the process is completed, you’ll have a follow-up appointment to ensure that your dental implant fits seamlessly into your mouth.

Do you find that you avoid smiling at people or even covering your mouth with your hands when you do? Or perhaps you have a good smile that just needs a little bit of adjustment to make them look great? Here at Thornbury Family Dental we believe having great oral health and teeth alignment and bite would help greatly with having a smile you can be confident to show. Research has shown that we look the best when we are smiling and that our smile is the first impression we make when we meet someone new.

At Thornbury Family Dental, we help our patients discreetly restore their confidence and smile everyday with Invisalign!

An Alternative to Traditional Braces

While traditional metal braces effectively straighten teeth, wearing them is not the most aesthetically pleasing look. That’s why millions of people worldwide choose Invisalign. This aligner system uses a series of clear, BPA-free, plastic aligners to gradually moves teeth into the desired position over time. Because the aligners are virtually transparent with in-built patented technology, you can straighten your teeth effectively and discreetly.

Customisation Equals Exceptional Results

Every patient will receive a tailored treatment plan and is fully involved in the process. We will provide each patient with a Clincheck 3D model to digitally visualize the entire treatment sequence and project expected results. This feature allows patients to get a good idea of what their final results will look like before Invisalign treatment begins.

A series of custom-fabricated clear aligners will be made based on the patient’s treatment plan. As your providing dental practice, we will prescribe a new set of trays every 10-14 days. You will need to wear the trays for 22 hours a day, removing them only to brush, floss and eat.

Some Benefits of Invisalign

  • As no irritating brackets and wires are used, wearing Invisalign is preferable to conventional braces
  • Because the aligners are practically invisible, most people won’t know you’re straightening your smile
  • You can eat your favourite foods
  • Appointments are shorter and less frequent
  • Maintaining oral hygiene is easy

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does Invisalign cost?

As every patient has unique needs, you’ll need to come in for a consultation first. Several factors must be considered, such as the number of aligners required and length of treatment. After the initial consultation, we will be able to give you an accurate quote, so there would be no surprises in the future.

Why should I choose Invisalign over conventional braces?

Sure, traditional metal braces get the job done when it comes to aligning one’s smile. However, they can be uncomfortable and are definitely not discreet. On the other hand, with Invisalign, you can achieve the smile of your dreams without everyone knowing you’re wearing aligners. For certain patients, Invisalign may even be the faster option compared to traditional metal braces.

How long will my treatment take?

Do you offer payment plans?

Yes! To make financing your Invisalign treatment convenient, we offer payment plans. These are broken down into manageable installments and paid over the course of treatment. We’ll provide you with details of payment breakdowns during your consultation appointment.

While wearing padding or a helmet provides essential protection during contact sports, don’t forget about your mouth! At Thornbury Family Dental we offer durable, custom-fitted mouth guards made from high-quality materials. If you or your children engage in sports such as football, rugby, hockey or another physical activity, mouth guards can provide effective protection from the following:

  • Chipped teeth
  • Cracked teeth
  • Cut lips
  • Jaw injury
  • Knocked-out teeth

Superior to Over-the-Counter Varieties

While many kids and teens wear mouth guards when playing sports, they often choose over-the-counter ones. The problem with those types is that they aren’t custom-fitted, so they don’t provide the force dissipation required.

Concussion Protection

Did you know that wearing a mouth guard could help to prevent a concussion? That’s because if you experience a hit to the lower jaw and it smashes against the upper jaw, a concussion can result. By wearing a custom-fitted mouth guard, however, your mouth will be better cushioned, preventing concussion injury.

Customised and Comfortable

At Thornbury Family Dental we provide custom-tailored mouth guards and offer them in a variety of colours – to make it easier to match what you’d like. The mouth guards we offer are also comfortable and allow you to speak normally.

Take Advantage of Our Special Offer

We are pleased to feature this fantastic offer: get a children’s custom-made mouth guard for $149* (originally $200). Further, as we are an HCF preferred provider, those with HCF cover may get up to two free (no out-of-pocket cost after private health cover) per calendar year. Call today to book a convenient appointment!
